We have compiled a list of top tips for how you can use your leftovers from Christmas Day to make them and your money stretch that bit further.
Have Brunch!
Brunch can be made up of anything you want due to it being breakfast and lunch combined, making it one of the easiest things to make from your Christmas leftovers. You can create a light dish out of whatever ingredients you have left.
Store Your Food Quickly And Freeze
Despite feeling very full and content after your Christmas dinner, it’s important that you store your leftovers quickly in a sealed container to get the most out of them at a later date. Ideally, you need to get your leftovers stored away within two hours. These will stay edible in the fridge for the next 2 days. Alternatively, if you have lots of leftovers from your Christmas dinner and you’re not going to eat them within the next two days, we suggest that you freeze them. This will keep them fresh for up to 3 months, meaning that nothing will go to waste this festive period.
Leftover Christmas Pudding
If your leftover Christmas pudding comes out in a solid lump, don’t panic! Simply put the pudding into a large bowl, cut it up to allow air to circulate. From here, you can put it in the microwave, which will heat up quickly. Lastly, add a tablespoon of brandy over the hot pudding and serve it with custard or ice cream.
Plan Ahead
Before Christmas day arrives, clean your freezer out to ensure that you have enough space for all the food before the big day, as well as for the leftovers afterwards. Make sure you have enough containers for all your leftovers, so nothing will go to waste.
Use The Turkey
There are so many recipes and dishes you can incorporate turkey into after Christmas Day. Whether you fancy a traditional turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich, or to be more creative and add it into a classic dish, turkey can be versatile and works well with a variety of flavours. All you need to do is find the recipe you want to try!
Wine And Port
In the event that you have any wine or port left over, you can freeze it and use it in gravies and stocks at a later date. Simply pour the beverages into ice cube trays and put them in the freezer to set. When you need them, get as many out of the freezer as you want and add them into your sauce.
Hopefully these top tips for enjoying your Christmas leftovers, will ensure that you don’t waste any money, and everything is used up.
