The Best Bramley’s

The next in season item we’re telling you to add to your new year’s diet is a sweet addition, it’s the Bramley apple. This apple is used for cooking due to its sourness so grab some while they’re fresh and try out our apple crumble recipe!

What you’ll need;

1kg Bramley apples (wash, cut into quarters, remove core and slice in 2 again)

Sugar

1 tbsp apple juice

100g plain flour

75g butter

50g rolled oats

100g demerara sugar

What you’ll need to do;

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
  2. Put the prepared apples into a pan, have a taste of one to check how sour they are and add sugar according to this. Add the apple juice and cook on a medium heat for 5 minutes once you notice the apples softening. Once ready add to a ovenproof dish.
  3. Get the flour and butter, you can use a food processor or your hands and mix together until breadcrumbs start to form. Next, stir in the oats and the brown sugar and add the mixture to the top of the apples in the dish.
  4. Pop into the oven for about 30 minutes, you will know it’s done when you can see it’s gone golden and crisp.
