12 Aug Our Top Five Tips For The Perfect Picnic
We have shared with you a veggie BBQ dish to satisfy your veggie and vegan guests but a BBQ isn’t the only way to enjoy the sun and some food this summer, a picnic is also great, especially if you don’t have an outdoor space of your own.
There are so many great things about organising a picnic, you can meet up with family and friends, enjoy a familiar or new outdoor spot all whilst enjoying some delicious homemade food! If you have kids, it’s a great way to keep them occupied this summer without breaking the bank. Look up local parks or woods that would be ideal to take in some sun and feast on a delicious picnic.
To help you on your way to organising your perfect picnic we’ve come up with our top five tips!
- The first thing you’ll need to do on a location and as we’ve already suggested, a park or woods can be ideal, you could even take your picnic down to the seaside! Once you’ve decided on your location think of practicality when it comes to traveling, will you be going by public transport or taking the car? Depending on how you travel will probably determine how much food you’re going to take and it’s also a good idea to check on parking beforehand if you are going in the car.
- Next is the best bit, deciding what to eat at your picnic! Sandwiches can seem like an obvious choice, but we all know that when you transport them they can go a bit soggy so we’re urging you to try something a bit more exciting on your next picnic and we have a few suggestions. Ditch the bread for lettuce leaves instead! Use lettuce leaves as cups to fill with your favourite sandwich fillings, whether its coronation chicken, BLT or tuna mayo. Go for a more sophisticated snack and make ‘feta cubes,’ all you’ll need is feta cheese, honey and chopped pistachios. Chop the feta into cubes then dip into honey and then into the chopped pistachio and you’ve got a picnic snack, you could even try other combinations!
- A great tip for packing your food is to use old glass jars, obviously empty them of any traces of jam first! These can work great for individual portions of salad, you can eat straight from the jar. Jars can be great to keep your salad in for a picnic as you can first put your dressing at the bottom of the jar then fill it with your salad, when you’re ready to eat, tip the salad from the jar onto a plate and the dressing will cover the salad as you do so it will seem nice and fresh! Jars can also be great to make your dessert in too, whether you go for a fruit salad or a cheesecake, they’re a great way to transport and have portions for each guest.
- Along with packing your food, make sure you have enough blankets to cover the ground, you don’t want creepy crawlies climbing into your feast! Make sure you have the cutlery you’ll need and enough of it and of course if you’re lucky enough and you get the weather, make sure you have your sun cream.
- Lastly, don’t forget to check the weather! There’s nothing worse than when it rains on your parade!
