British pie week takes place annually on the first full week of March and originated in 2007. This event is a great way to get all the family cooking and trying new flavours of pie, whether you prefer savoury or sweet. With there being so many pies to choose from, you can try a new one every day and we have just the list to get you started! So, what are the top 7 pies you need to try? Let’s take a closer look, below.

#1 Pecan Pie

For those with a sweet tooth, pecan pie originated from Southern United States and is considered a speciality there. The main ingredients include pecan nuts mixed with eggs, butter and sugar, with variations including sugar syrup, molasses or honey. It’s important to note that if you have a nut allergy then this pie isn’t suitable due to the pecans. This traditional all-American Thanksgiving dessert is the perfect addition to any celebratory dinner party, especially as a treat for British pie week!

#2 Banoffee Pie

Found on dessert menus across the country, Banoffee pie is an exclusive English pie and a popular choice for many. As the name suggests, bananas and toffee are the two main ingredients that are essential to the success of the pie. Like pecan pie, Banoffee pie is perfect for serving at an event!

#3 Key Lime Pie

Key lime pie is another American dessert pie, made from key lime juice, egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk. For a refreshing after-dinner treat, this is an easy pie to make. The classic limes add a punchy flavour to the dessert, with a simple biscuit base and sweet filling.

#4 Pumpkin Pie

This pie is usually enjoyed during Autumn and is a popular dessert that is served in the United States and Canada and prepared for Thanksgiving or when pumpkin is in season. In the United Kingdom, pumpkin pie is made with the leftovers when carving pumpkins for Halloween. There are a variety of recipes to choose from, so you can find the one that you like the best!

#5 Chicken And Mushroom Pie

For something savoury, you can’t beat a chicken and mushroom pie to warm you up during the colder months. This pie is easy to make and is a common British pie that you must have during British Pie Week. In fact, it’s one of the most popular types of savoury pies in Great Britain. If you don’t like chicken or mushrooms, you can change the meet or remove the mushrooms and customise the pie to your preferences.

#6 Fish Pie

This traditional British dish is usually made with white, smoked fish in a white or cheddar cheese sauce. However, fish pie can be made your own as you add all your favourite fish, including prawns, salmon and cod. Like chicken and mushroom pie, fish pie is easy to prepare and cook, making the perfect hearty meal for all the family.
